What's Happening...
There are so many things wonderful things happening at our studio that we do need to share with all of you. First we re-opened our studio in April, only three month ago. However the amount of classes, events, parties that we experienced were huge! Every day at our studio magical moments of spontaneity happens. Adults, teens and children can be creative and safe in our colorful and playful space.
In April we inaugurated our new space, our classes started for children, teens and adults. We had so many visitors. From Mom’s club to home schooling families. Everyday of the week we had so many exciting classes like Tango and salsa class, explore your world, water colors…
In May, we showed our first movie production "Believe it or Not"", we filled our space with over 40 people, between families and friends we all shared this great moment of accomplishment watching our first movie. How exciting!
In June, Lulu went to Costa Rica brought more beautiful music instruments, we also debut in the Naples Philharmonic, this event at the Magic Carpet concern was one of the high light of our month. We also hosted a beautiful party for the TorgormeVillage in Ghana, West Africa. Adam (Lulu’s husband) went to TorgomeVillage and brought art suppliers to the school village. We were so happy for being globe citizens! June we also had a fabulous two weeks camp with the artist Juliet Araujo, and the assistants Marlova and Lis Bruce. The children made beautiful animals sculptures, children also built their own body sculptures, and they took pictures and now the idea to write a book about the endangered animals from Florida.
We start the month of July'09 with so many great ideas and creative plans! We will be sharing soon with you!
Last year... Time passes so fast and I can’t believe we have already arrived in September. It seems like if was yesterday that we had our grand opening and few days ago that we opened our doors to our South West Florida community.
However 6 months have passed since our first class in February. I feel we had accomplished quite a lot in such a short time. So, I’d like to re-cap special moments of Outside The Box- Studio from this first semester, as well as give you some updates regarding the upcoming second semester.
I would like to thank you each one of you that took the time and gave us the effort of building Outside the Box- studio. Without your presence and light we would not be celebrating this enormous achievement.
I am back in Naples. August 9th we participated at the Back to School annual fair at the Vanderbilt and Airport Road shopping center.
Our classes starts first week of September and for the next semester we already have many great things already planned for you, your family and our community.
Upcoming events and projects include:
Spanish and Portuguese classes for children and adults. Continued Rhythm of joy class for adults AND children's class starting in September. Donna Roberts and Ann Smith adult classes on How To Be Green, Oct '08. Janet and Deb will continue their series - Sep 6'08 Juliet Araujo giving art classes for adults and children. Rebecca Walters from New York to conduct workshop in our studio about Psychodrama in October. Alan will teach yoga for children and parents. Deb Burger will be teaching tai-chi cha for adults. …. and much more.

June /July /Summer Art Festivals 2008
In June we started our summer children’s art festival and we had a visit from Rose Emery with her class “Interconnect”; Alan taught yoga and music in a class “Boys will be Boys”; Glen from Super Science participated in a class “Under the Sea”; Lorraine taught “Tots and Parents Spanish”; Lulu had a ball with her Portuguese class for children with both nationalities Brazilian and American; Pedro taught us drumming; we had a great time with Mary Lynn and Barefoot books, guitar lesson with Jose and Kim Rose taught children many unique art techniques. Donna Roberts and Tyler facilitated a “Spark in the Dark” workshop and it was very inspiring.
In July we ended our children’s art festival with a Brazilian folklore celebration for the Portuguese class. Parents, grandparents and friends were present at our studio to participate at the party. Janet Weisberg and Deb Burger starting a series of workshop” Slide in the Rabbit Hole”. Lulu Traveled to Turkey and Greece. Visited the Modern Art Museum of Istanbul, which gave her many new ideas.

May Event - Write Away Writing Workshop on May 17 2008
Author and writing coach Lorraine C. Ladish held a writing workshop in which participants were given tips on the process of generating ideas, writing in different genres, overcoming writer's block and more. Participants included playwrights, comedians, business writers, students and people who had never written before.

Event - Outside the Box- Studio celebrated Eath Day at Koreshan Park
Koreshan, Sierra Club host Earth Day celebration
By ELIZABETH WRIGHT (Contact) 5:50 p.m., Saturday, April 19, 2008 "Colorful streamers hung from tree branches at the Koreshan State Historic Site, and drummers performed at the center of the old Estero settlement, after speakers took to the stage to talk about water quality and conservation.
This was how the Calusa Group of the Sierra Club marked Earth Day at Saturday’s celebration."
"Education -- whether it’s for children, seasonal visitors or full-time residents -- is part of the purpose of the event", Wohlpart said.
“It’s a way of a creating a new ethos,” he said of concern for the environment, and for him, concern about climate change. “Unless we change our way of relating with the earth, we aren’t going to have much of an earth left.”
Earth Day has been sparking events promoting environmental awareness around the country for more than a quarter century.
The Koreshan park event, now in its seventh year, grows a little bit more each time it is held", he said.
"it was really a great day, and my kids and I especially enjoyed the coconut frond sculptures we made at Outside the Box Studio.... The creativity and connection to the Earth Day theme was awesome! Lulu Carter and Janet Weissberg were very enthusiastic at their Outside The Box booth!"

March Events, Workshops and Classes 2008
Event - Outside The Box- Studio organized the Entertainment at the Naples Botanic Garden during the event Bello Brazil. Monica Ulrich was there at the Bello Brazil event to celebrate Brazilian Culture with Lulu Carter.
"The 55th annual juried Naples Flower Show, “Belo Brasil,” in conjunction with Third in Bloom, infuses even more color into the already-flowering Naples Botanical Garden today and Sunday.
For the third consecutive year, Naples Garden Club and Naples Botanical Garden will be jointly presenting the show, sponsored by the Daily News, Third in Bloom and Auctions Neapolitan. Throughout the weekend you can meet actress Jane Seymour, get excited about cycadas, look at hundreds of flowers in sophisticated or whimsical arrangements and learn how to create your own.
Seymour, will present a sampling of her botanical paintings and her most recent book, “Making Yourself at Home,” and will discuss her artwork and sign copies of her book. Floral designs based on her art will be on display.
Demonstrations of horticulture and design as well as tours of Naples Botanical Garden will be offered. Vendors of unusual plants, jewelry and garden ornaments will participate in the Garden Market. Because of the Brazilian theme, a special exhibit of Brazilian plant life and flowers is part of the event".
Lis Bruce (our fashion teacher) designed all the Brazilian costumes for the event.

Workshop /March – Saturday 8 from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM “Celebrate Womanhood” – By Lulu Carter (multimedia artist and psychodrama expert), Angie Gonzalez from Miami (mental health counselor and psychodrama expert), Laura Elliot (multimedia artist and art therapist)
Explore women’s power and strength in the world, through a psychodrama warm-up and an artistic ritual using paint.

Event - Feb 23 The Outside The Box team was presented at the Neapolitan Family'08 at the Costaland Mall. Over 120 children visited our space and had a fabulous time! Laura, kellly, Jackie,Mary Ellen, Lisa and other teachers were face painting the beautiful children's faces.
Workshop Outside The Box - Studio / Feb 16 '08 Second Outside The Box - Studio Teacher's Workshop Many people attended our second teacher's workshop. Mary Jo Welsh (Director of Precious Cargo Learning Center was presented).

Class My Tribe - 6 to 7 years old - Tuesdays from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
The course My Tribe embraces many aspects of different cultures through multimedia art; it will provide the children to learn about diversity, geography, history and socials aspects in an innovative way of teaching and learning. This course is a great extra curricular after-school program.
Event /Azteca Television- Carlos Zapata from Azteca Televisión was in our studio interviewing our Brazilian teacher Lis Bruce
. Lis is Lulu's mom and she is teaching fashion design to the children at Outside the Box. So far, she has created over 150 dolls, that she dressed in a wide variety of Brazilian costumes.
Workshop /"The Colors of Africa" - "We were very excited to have Peter coming to our studio. This event was our first Saturday workshop and also Peter's first workshop outside Ghana. Peter shared his knowledge and his passion for teaching art to the children in Africa. He said he wants to return to our studio next year. Outside The Box- Studio is organizing a trip to Africa for 2009, so we can all work with Peter in Torgome Village, teaching art and education to the beautiful people in Ghana". Peter asked everyone to work on the same canvas - the theme was "life back home”. After the wonderful interaction everyone shared their background. We had about 4 different countries and many states of USA represented as part of the beautiful canvas art work.
Peter Nii Narku Thompson - Ghanaian Pan cultural Artist
Peter was born in Accra, Ghana. He graduated with a diploma from the Ghanaian College of Art in Accra. He is currently the director of the painting department at the Junior Art Club (JAC), a non-governmental organization. He is responsible for the art unit of the ten branches of the JAC schools. He is responsible for the art department at Ever Images Career Consultant. Peter held his first exhibition at the American Club in Accra in 1998. The main themes Peter likes working with are concentrated features of life impressions and abstract images. His peaceful disposition is reflected in his choice of colors, i.e. free flowing colors with bold approaches. He derives inspiration from his creative imagination on the subject of life in general. Some of his exhibitions have been held at: the American Club, Accra, Ghana, The National Museum, Accra, Ghana, The Goethe Institute, Accra, Ghana, Alliance Françoise, Kumasi, Ghana, In the Gallery, Nashville, T inn. Northwestern Building, St. Paul, Minn., Blue Line Gallery, Atlanta, Ga., The National Bank Fine Arts, New York, N.Y., St. Paul Art Crawl, St. Paul, Minn.

Event /Outside The Box - Studio - Grand Opening / Jan 25, 2008 January 25'08 Outside The Box- Studio celabrated the grand opening! over 80 peple from our community were participating in a very special, creative and high energy party!
Joe Cox (Executive Director of Children's Museum of Naples) and Rose Emery(Outside the Box teacher) were present at Outise The Box- Studio grand opening. Outside The Box- Studio wants to raise the awareness of the importance of the Children's Museum for our community.
