Clay Mono Prints + Encaustic

What happens when you paint wax over clay mono prints? Come to this sampler mixing class to find out! This is a special class designed to give you a taste of clay mono prints (day one) and encaustic painting (day two). You don’t have to have any experience in either medium, and if you are curious about either or both, this is a great class to explore and find out more! Mary Lynn and Michele have been concocting this class for a while, so come find out what they have up their collective sleeves!

MONOTHON
Intensive Course

Monotype Printing + Encaustic

What would happen if you spent an entire day print making? Block printing, gelli printing, collagraphy, mini mono printing, encaustic printing, and a whole host of gadget printing (think food, bottle bottoms, found objects, leaves and more). And then spent a second day working with those prints under encaustic paint? You’d have a regular monothon and that’s what we will be doing at Outside the Box Studio. Come with us as we explore all sorts of monotype printing, and then combine them with encaustic painting. Two days of wild fun, no experience in printmaking or encaustic necessary. You’ll leave with a wide variety of printmaking you can do on your own without a press, and a delicious taste of encaustic painting.

InstructorS

Mary Lynn Baird

I am a multi-disciplined, mixed media artist, art explorer, optimist, and collector of friends for the sake of art and community. Over the past 32 years I had the great love of teaching art to students K-6.  Although I have always been an artist, my students artistically formed me in ways I never would have imagined.  When I retired as an art teacher I knew I wanted to continue on

my artist journey but I also knew I didn’t want to do it alone.

So that is how Outside the box studiO came to be!  What am I most artistically passionate about: Clay Monotype! If you haven't tried this form of art, it is a must!  It is an intense, technical, and deeply layered process and becomes more beautifully complicated the further you explore. I have been developing this form of art for more than a decade. Mixed Media with Photo Image Transfer!  I love layers, multitudes of mediums and then the addition of a subtle story through photo image transfer.  My other love: Trying it all!  I truly can’t get enough of unearthing  and developing art skills in all mediums, sharing discoveries with others and becoming a sponge for new learning.

Michele is an enthusiastic encaustic artist, eager to share all she knows (and doesn’t know) about this most flexible art practice. She fell in love with encaustic after meeting Victoria Eubanks at an art show, taking her classes, then volunteering as her assistant (and open studio room mother) when Victoria taught at Art Students League of Denver. Michele has been producing and selling her graphic and whimsical artwork since 2015. She says her favorite part of working with wax is the endless directions it can go and how satisfying and forgiving the entire process is. Michele is a freelance graphic designer and finds painting with wax to be a perfect complement to her design work and
vice versa! She is represented at two galleries in the Denver area, participates in summer art shows, and is giddy about teaching at Outside the Box Studio.
